This approximately what the inside of Koenigs house looked like in 1957. This a little exaggerated, but it was the closest picture I could find to illustrate what it looked like inside. It was a mess, there was no furniture, no food and no visible means of keeping the house warm. Our first thoughts were how could anyone live in this mess?
Johnny was surely living there somewhere, but where? We often saw him walking up the road and when my mom was driving, she would stop and offer Johnny a ride. She would drop him off where the road started up to Koenigs house. It was not passable beyond the broken bridge shortly up the road from there.

As kids we were really concerned that something was terribly wrong about Koenigs farm but were never told our parent for fear of getting into trouble.
According to my parents' conversations, Johnny was later picked up in downtown Altoona walking the streets with no visible means of support. I assume he was put in an assisted living home, we never heard anything about him after that.
